Gardens at Moose Lodge

There are three raised garden beds at the moose lodge for renters of that lodge to harvest, if available. 

Current items available:

  • Mesclun Mix Lettuce
  • Kale
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Green Onion
  • Cilantro
  • Parsley
  • Dill
  • Sage
  • Stevia
  • Lemon Thyme
  • Chives
  • Lavender
  • Corn
Rule of the Green Thumb
Never take more than 1/3 of the plant when harvesting. 

Harvesting kale and lettuce can be done in a cut and come again fashion. However, instead of cutting you just snap the leaves an inch from the soil and avoid taking too much from the crown (the middle of the plant). It’s best to take the outside bottom leaves first. Also, cutting in the morning is best and before the heat sets in for the day. This helps the texture to be crispier and tastes sweeter. After 1-2 weeks new growth will take place. 

Wash the veggies and herbs in a white vinegar (provided) wash in the sink. This will eliminate any bugs. Place the lettuce on a towel to dry. You can then transfer to a deep dish, lay paper towel, and cover with Saran Wrap. Store in the fridge for a deliciously fresh salad for dinner!
